University Professorship - Implementation Research

Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg
The Research Institute, based in Hamburg, is a member of the Leibniz Association and the largest institution in Germany for research, care and teaching in the field of tropical diseases and emerging infections. The Institute also works closely with partner institutes around the world and requires candidates for the vacancy to be willing to travel. Although the professor will mainly work out of Hamburg, he or she will also regularly travel worldwide within the framework of international multi-centre research projects. Accordingly, the Institute requires English skills at C2 level - French at C1 level is desirable.
Area of Responsibility of the Professorship
The professorship is an initial appointment to a newly created position. The Professor of Tropical Medicine will be responsible for the establishment and management of a newly founded Department of Empirical Implementation Research at the Institute. This also includes the establishment of an internationally visible research programme and competence network in this subject area as well as the planning and management of application-oriented research projects.
In addition, teaching in the subject of implementation research with a focus on infection control is also one of the tasks of the University Chair of Tropical Medicine.
Doctorate and Habilitation as Requirements for Employment
According to the Hamburg Higher Education Act, the university professorship is subject to recruitment requirements.
Candidates for the vacancy must have a university degree - ideally in human medicine. Additional qualifications in epidemiology, clinical research and health systems research are also desirable. Furthermore, for the professorship of tropical medicine, a qualified doctorate as well as the pedagogical suitability for teaching at a university in the form of a habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) must be available.
Moreover, at least five years of professional practice with special performance in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods are required - three years of which must have been completed outside the university sector.
